Just In: WWF Spotlight Magazines

The WWF Spotlight series from WWF Magazine was always a personal favorite of mine. Even if you didn't particularly like the wrestler, the in-depth series of articles and historic photos made for an interesting package.

I just added five of these to the store. These are all in fantastic shape, and include their often-missing giant pull-out poster. I've seen these posters go for $20+ each if they're in good enough shape. This is a good chance to snag both the poster and the companion magazine.

Some Announcements

Hope everyone is enjoying their day off. There's been little rest with us, as we've been burning the midnight oil to make some big changes for The Retropolis. So let's get our hands dirty and delve into these announcements.

  • You can now visit our store by going to theretropolis.com. We hope to get a Web store independent of eBay by November. Until then, this will make it easier to access our eBay store.
  • Check out our newly designed store front. After four years of the same store front, the time had come to retool it. Gone are several categories. In their place, you'll see more specific categories for our wrestling videos and magazines. Aaron and I worked diligently all weekend to get this finished by this morning, so have a look. We think you'll like it.
  • We are now a sponsor of The History of WWE. For those of you who don't know, this is the definitive Web site for wrestling history. Need to know a match result from a PPV 20 years back? How about a house show result from 1992? Need a recap of TV show or an interview with a wrestling legend? This is your place for those needs and so much more. If you haven't already, check out the fantastic Web site, along with the message board. And don't forget to join the Facebook group. Speaking of Facebook...
  • We're on there, too, now. Become a fan of ours by joining the group.
Check back this week for some new inventory, including WWF LJN figures.

Just In: OOP WWF DVDs

Long time, no update. We've been plugging away at keeping fresh stock coming into our eBay store. We recently added a number of out-of-print WWF, ECW, and WWE DVDs. Here are some of the highlights.

  • Undertaker Two-Shot: Here's a chance to pick up a pair of Undertaker DVDs for one price. Included is his 2001 release This Is My Yard, a great set that includes a career retrospective program plus several classic Undertaker matches. Included are such memorable encounters as the first Hell in a Cell Match against Shawn Michaels, his icon showdown with HHH at Wrestlemania X-7, and his battles with brother Kane in 1998. Then there's He Buries Them Alive, which you Coliseum Video fanatics will recognize as a release from CV during the mid-90s. You'll get previously unseen battles with the likes of Jim Neidhart and Jerry Lawler there.

  • Summerslam '99: The recent anthology releases of the big WWF PPVs has some viewers deeming the original video and DVD releases obsolete. Not true. These original releases feature no music or blurring edits, which is unfortunately not the case with the anthology sets. But there's good news. You can score Summerslam '99, one of these events hampered with edits in the new release, here with no edits at a great price. There's the triple-threat main event between HHH, Mankind and Steve Austin featuring the return of Jesse Ventura. There's also a forgotten classic in Test vs. Shane McMahon. And don't miss other old favorites such as DX, The Undertaker, Big Show, Chris Jericho, The Rock, and more.

  • Hardy Boyz- Leap of Faith: It's hard to believe the Hardy Boyz have effectively been entertaining fans for over a decade. Get back to their roots, with this OOP DVD that recaps the cream of the crop from the duo's first two years in the WWF. Classic encounters with Edge & Christian, The Acolytes, and The Dudleyz are chronicled for your viewing pleasure.
We've got some more WWE and WWF DVDs coming this week, so stay tuned. Follow us on Twitter (user name: TheRetropolis) for up-to-the-minute updates about new inventory.

Check Out: Our eBay Guides

One of the better aspects of being a registered member of eBay is the ability to post reviews and guides. Designed to provide information about products or offer guidelines to fellow eBayers, this sector of eBay continues to serve as a hub of knowledge.

As with any database dependent on community contributions, eBay's reviews and guides section relies on authorities on various products and guidelines to realize its maximum potential. With this in mind, we contributed a series of guides to LJN's WWF Wrestling Superstars line. This two-part guide gives an overview of the five-year collection. We encourage you to give them a look, rate them, and offer any suggestions.

Just In: Early 1990s Coliseum Video

Just because summer is starting to wane doesn't mean available wrestling footage at The Retropolis is following suit. We're packing the shelves with a nice assortment of early 1990s wrestling footage, predominantly from Coliseum Video.

As per the usual, you'll find our price among the best around the 'net. And just to sweeten the deal, there's free shipping on virtually every video. Here are some favorites from the latest wave of additions:

Monday Night RAW Prime Cuts (1994): Simply put, this is one of Coliseum's best offerings from both a wrestling an historical aspect. This two-hour video chronicles the first year of the innovative TV series. You'll find a collection of critical matches, such as the famous Marty Jannetty vs. Shawn Michaels Intercontinental title match, 20-man battle royal to crown a new IC champion, and the third encounter between Doink the Clown and Mr. Perfect in the King of the Ring qualifiers.

The Ultimate Warrior (1990): The Warrior was one of the most popular WWF superstars during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Common sense would tell you then that he got the individual video profile treatment. That was true three times over. This, the second Warrior release, remains incredibly tough to track down. Its inclusion in the more affordable Collector's Series line from CV means it was produced in smaller quantities.

4th Annual Survivor Series (1990): Even newer WWE fans are probably aware of this show, whether they're explicitly aware of that or not. That's because this show marks the WWF debut of The Undertaker. That coupled with the video's age has made it a tough find on secondary markets. And who can resist those glorious over-sized video cases Coliseum Video released their titles in from 1990 to 1992? Not I.

Just In: Wrestling Video Collection

No, those aren't bricks of cocaine piled up there. The white paper is filled with something nearly as addictive, though: hours and hours of classic wrestling footage. Check the eBay store for the latest. We've added quite a few affordable titles, in addition to some real gems. Here are some of the notables:

Wrestlefest '88: A one-time event that has become one of the more elusive entries from the Coliseum Video library. This is a pristine, non-rental, so don't delay. Chances are it'll go quickly.

Royal Rumble '90: You'll hear a lot about the '92 Rumble match. And with good reason. But this is right up there on the list as far as quality Rumbles go. A star-studded event. Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, DiBiase, Macho King, Roddy Piper, Dusty Rhodes. The match was packed with potential sensible winners. The result is a fantastic Rumble match and the birth of the Warrior-Hogan storyline that concluded at Wrestlemania VI the following April.

Superbrawl II: Early WCW shows are tough to track down. This isn't an exception. Superbrawl II boasts some incredible wrestling, namely Lex Luger taking on Sting and Rick Rude battling with Ricky Steamboat.

An Update with Updates

Wow, has it really been nearly a month since our last update? Apologies all around. The commencement of true summer weather and subsequent activities has sort of consumed everything. Nevertheless, we're back at it and ready to amp up productivity for the lost time.

  • We just ran a weekend-long sale on our top-shelf items. The response was so overwhelming that we're going to extend it and add more. We'll have a post about that very soon.
  • There are some lofty wrestling video updates on the horizon. We just acquired a small, but impressive library of videos that we'll parcel off over the next 24 hours. Some great titles such as the original Wrestlefest in this lot.
  • We're also going to keep with our own growing trend of keeping eBay stocked with rarely seen videos. There's too much saturation of the same videos on the Web site right now. It's time to do our part to offset that. As such, expect some great things from the late 1980s Coliseum Video era quite soon.
  • Our inventory on non-wrestling items is taking up too much space right now, so we're prepping a huge blowout to generate some space. As always, stay tuned for an update on that.
We'll post a small preview of our upcoming wrestling video additions later tonight, so check back.
